(Mail verstuurd 15 april 2010)

Voorstel vredesproject 'Afghanistan Kites for Peace'

Concept voor project 'Kites for Peace Afghanistan'

Kites for Peace in Afghanistan

Fly a kite for peace in Afghanistan
It's in the air
Pull it down to Earth

Kites expressing harmony
Kites expressing visions of freedom
Flying for peace

Kites expressing passion
Kites expressing equal compassion
Kites expressing fun
Kites expressing pleasure
Kites expressing joy

Kites expressing tranquillity
Kites expressing serenity
Kites expressing equanimity
Kites expressing serendipity
Kites expressing union
Kites expressing truth

Kites expressing a fresh wind of peace
Silently whispering
Slowly - then more rapidly, and rapidly,
becoming a kind, friendly, and laughing storm,
hurricane, cyclone, typhoon

A Big Bang of Love
Commitment
Celebrating the Highest Principle

It's all in the air
Pull it down to Earth

(10 Oct 2004) 'One Sky One Peace' in Amsterdam On a private scale, we participated in the worldwide OSOP event (more on this initiative see below). We headed to the Amsterdamse Bos to fly kites (or better said attempt to fly, the weather was not ideal). Anyway, we felt connected with the world...

(24 Feb 2003) 15 Feb in Amsterdam / and assorted musings

Yes, we did a somewhat modest action during the worldwide marches for peace on Saturday 15 February 2003. Not less than 603 cities and places spanning the globe from Antarctica (!) to Greenland, and involving all continents with in some places possibly the biggest marches ever held: Rome two-and half millions (more conservative circles have admitted above a million), London about the same, Madrid and New York around a million or more, etc. In Amsterdam, our estimates were 80.000. It was absolutely stunning to be part of this planetary uprise agains a possible future war that the large majority of the world does not want or does not sanction at all.

    • - In hindsight, everyone who participated has made a difference to the world we are living in. Imagine that the closest friends and relatives of the marchers who could not be there were in spirit with them. To be in the bitter cold in many places was an act of generosity and free will, which counts manifold. A direct result may be that all the blatant declarations of the warmongers will sound hollow, as the mass media have lost their fascination and convincing power. The call is for peace, and any other voices have to be met with suspicion.

New information regarding the true backgrounds of this attack of the core values of humanity surfaces via the Internet. (A newest set of insights and observations is placed in this site's New Economy section.)

This is just one more reason to dedicate all energy to a peaceful and dignifying solution for the whole Middle-East scene including Palestine. And prepare for a planetary management where ideally the best innovations and inspirations will be shared and supported, regardless if they come from children, retired people, remote peasants, or dedicated kings.

Two pictures of our action here in Amsterdam last Saturday. - We did not manage to fly kites over the American Embassy which was our plan, but attempted to fly them at the end of the rally in the Vondelpark.

80.000 people took part here and saw and felt the magic of our kite flying peace activity. (The kites were too heavy, and my proposal to lift them in the air with balloons for a start was not realistic. In the end, we tied eight helium-filled balloons together, affixed a double-lettersize poster of 'War is Over - if you want it' and a postcard with our names. Majestetically, it flew off in the direction of the American Embassy... which was sealed off by riot police, see above)

'Flying Kites for Peace' is not so new as we had thought first. Due to Chris' activities, we got in contact with a group 'One Sky - One World' http://subvision.net/sky/osow , since 1985 flying kites for peace always the second Sunday in October!

(6 Feb 2003) Dear Kite Flyer! - by Chris L.

Here in Amsterdam we are arranging a "One Day, once in a lifetime, world-wide kite flying event" for the upcoming worldwide peace marches on Saturday 15 February '03. It promises to become the biggest peace event ever - 356 cities and places today and growing! http://www.unitedforpeace.org

Kite flyers of all nationalities world-wide, young and old, join flying their kite for "One Day in Peace". Kites flying all over the world, one and at the same time for peace.

"Kites are the poetry of the sky, they touch the mind and can even change it. The sky is free to everybody!!!!! It is our space!!! to express ourselves and be as free as we wish.

The incredible image of the little boy on "tv news world-wide" flying his Kite in Kabul, Afghanistan, twenty four hours after the Taliban had left, symbolised freedom in the most simplest of terms (a simple kite flying in earth's nature symbolising peace and freedom).

"The sky is big enough for everyone, and everyone owns a little piece".

    ABSOLUTE MAGIC!!!!

Get back to me if you are interested in getting this wonderful idea off the ground in your own country so we can co-ordinate such a magical, peaceful event world-wide. Or other people you know who would be interested in promoting a Peace world-wide international kite flying event. (Kites flying all around the world on the same day at the same time for peace) - BINGO!

At the moment this is an idea created by a small group of fellow thinking kite flyers here in Holland and we wish to enlarge it into a world-wide event. Can you imagine kites flying all around the world, different time zones, day and night in one twenty four hour period ... WOW!!!!

Get back to us as soon as possible to make this magical "one day world-wide peace event" happen. We already have a lot of International Kite Flying Clubs and Associations interested. Please reply and help us to make this truly wonderful world-wide "Kites for Peace" event feasable.

Thanking you in advance and Happy Peaceful Flying.

    Yours
    Chris Leather,
in co-operation with Guido Hoogenboom, Freed Schmitter

Fly a Kite for Peace in Middle-East
    (by Guido Hoogenboom)

10 October 2002 was a meeting in the Mozes and Aaron church in Amsterdam. That evening, the 'Dutch Coalition for Peace' presented two speakers, Ahmed Aboutaleb and Judith Belinfante, both inititiators of the Coalition. A part of the program was reserved to show a TV-documentary of a primary school in Bethlehem. The teachers shared that their school's philosophy was that the children first learn to feel peace in themselves. This will then bring forth peace in their environment.

While watching this documentary, all kinds of memories of my own youth during the second WorldWar surfaced. I was six when it started and eleven when it was over, five long years. Children then had the discouraging feeling that the occupiers, 'the Germans', never would leave the country again. When the Liberation finally arrived in May 1945 and the peace agreement was signed, an indescribable feeling of relief and joy appeared.

This could happen likewise to the Palestine and Israel children and adults when peace agreements for the Middle-East will be signed after so many long years.

In the month of August 1945, I went with my parents and my nine brothers and five sisters on vacation to Noordwijk aan Zee. A yearly tradition that was in use in our family before the war. For a big part, I was busy with building and flying kites in all shapes and sizes during these vacations. Therefore, I wish every child a youth similar to the one I was able to experience when peace was restored in the Netherlands and Europe.

During the evening programme of the 'Coalition for Peace' I developed the following plan that we later worked out and are going to work out together.

    Art and Kites

Children from Palestina and Israel (and other conflict areas) will be invited to the Netherlands to share with the children of Dutch schools about their daily life in their respective countries. Their experiences can be enriched with slides, video and photos. At the schools where the children are invited, they will also design and build kites in co-operation with these scholars using peace and unity symbols, or other kinds of bridge elements. The children which participate in the project will fly kites in Noordwijk aan Zee, where in May of this year a small human chain of Peace and Unity was formed along the coast.

To signalize peace for instance in Israel and Palestina, kites as signs of peace and reconciliation will preferrably appear on the borders. School children from both sides are called to sign a peace agreement. In unison, they will fly kites for peace.

When the children returned home, the participating Dutch schools of 'Kites for Peace' will be asked to adopt a school in their respective countries. This is a contribution to motivate more schools in the Middle-East to begin a peace-dialogue.

Let the children pull the strings!
